Fruits and Flower
There's something about Fruits Basket that you just have to love, even if it's difficult to articulate the details. The fantasy aspect (i.e. Juunishi, Hana-chan's infamous "denpa" a.k.a. psychic waves, etc.) is certainly nothing new to the shoujo industry: we all know what the wonder of transformation can do to one's brain since Sailor Moon days. Nevertheless, it's still a series beyond the ordinary scale of hilariousity with its beautiful characters (with 0% sarcasm!) that you don't know whether to cry or to laugh.
Although Hana-chan is not a major character in Furuba compared to her best friend (^_~), she certainly has the knack of "impressing" all sorts of people, friends or strangers. My initial interest in her was mainly based on her method of speech (Note: in the Japanese version of Furuba, Hana-chan talks with a sophisticated air full of sarcastic yet amusing remarks), but my level of respect for her wasn't brought to the current height until I read her backstory in volume 9. Her sense of fashion is also worth a mention: seriously, take a look at my BLACK closet and you'll know why I think Hana-chan is the most beautiful Furuba female apart from Rin. Overall, Tohru is to be envied totally for having such an awesome friend and I'm very happy to be running her little fanlisting.
Technicality
In spite of my (and Hana-chan's) love for black, I figured that it's not the best color to reflect Hana-chan's ever so dramatic personality. As a result, version one of Shadow Heart ended up as one of my more rainbow-y layouts with a sentimental Hana-chan image. Other than the few scans I borrowed from Furuba volume 5 and the big wing pattern from Top Tattoo Designs, everything is pretty much hand-drawn with a mouse. Of course, I'd also like to thank the lovely Enthusiast for powering the fanlisting portion of this site.
